It operates as a specialty finance company that invests in residential mortgage backed securities, or RMBS, residential mortgage loans, real estate-related securities and various other asset classes. It has elected to be taxed as a real estate investment trust, or REIT, for federal income tax purposes. The Company’s objective is to provide attractive risk-adjusted returns to its investors over the long-term, mainly through dividends and secondarily through capital appreciation. It intends to achieve this objective by investing in a class of financial assets to construct an investment portfolio that is designed to achieve attractive risk-adjusted returns and that is structured to comply with the various federal income tax requirements for REIT status.
